On the exact pre-owned item, ask to see the zip open and close normally. A model description tells you its intended arrangement; it does not establish the condition or operation of a particular used bag.
A small pouch can hold loose items while the main compartment stays open. Decide which space you want to close. Neither a zip nor a removable fastener should be treated as a waterproof seal or a theft-prevention guarantee.
Ask the seller to show the actual fastening
Ask for these views if the listing only shows the front of the bag:
- The whole main opening, so you can see its closure arrangement.
- Any removable fastener shown separately beside the bag.
- The inside pouch and its attachment, if included.
Then ask: “Which of these pieces are included in this sale, and can you show the main opening being closed?” If the answer and photographs differ, request clarification before proceeding. A mismatch is not, by itself, an authenticity verdict.
Choose the closure before the colour
Suppose one Saint Louis listing says “with pouch”, while another says “with Croc Universel”. If your requirement is a zip across the main compartment, neither description confirms it. Ask about an Artois PM instead if a zipped main compartment is essential.
